Hook
I love to play sports. The clang sound as a bat and a ball make perfect contact, the swoosh as the ball goes through the hoop; these are as good as sounds as anything in the world. Sports are the greatest thing that's ever happened to the world. They are very fun to play, and people can make millions doing what they love. People like LeBron James make more in 10 years than most people do in a lifetime, and they get to do it playing what they love to do. Kids who play sports in schools have an opportunity to do something great in life if they find that they have a special talent. That is what sports can do. They can reveal peoples special talents. When that special talent is revealed, then there is nothing stopping them.

If you were to actually start an essay with extremely good hook I'd suggest putting in a thesis statement around the end or in the middle. Sense your not though, this a REALLY good hook.
ReplyDeleteThe imagery you begin with really draws a reader in. You have a good start for an informational essay, but how could you turn this into a hook for a persuasive one? Is there a way to draw out a thesis statement - a stance you could argue for or against? Think of the thesis of a persuasive essay as a question you can spend the rest of the essay answering. What question are you answering?
