Essay 3
Alternate Ending
The book "Schooled" by Gordon Korman is a great book, and it teaches a lot of lessons.
As Cap Anderson climbed out of the car, he could not believe his eyes. More than a thousand people were standing around with sad faces on, holding candles. Cap could not e seen by anyone, because his face was covered by the Mickey mouse hat. He wanted to throw it off and yell, " I am alive." The look on some kids faces told him the whole story though. Almost everyone was looking at the kid in the Mickey mouse hat with hate. Cap knew they couldn't see him, but the way everyone's faces were, he knew if he took off the hat, he would be mobbed. He climbed back into the car, and promised himself he was never going to go to that school again, never.
Even though Cap was sad about the ceremony that apparently went very wrong for him, he couldn't stay that way because he was now going back to Garland. When he got there, Sophie parked in front, dropped him off and took off. When Cap stepped out he saw a fancy car, with a woman sitting on the hood just smiling at him. He recognized this person immediately though. What was his hippie grandmother doing in a fancy car and nice clothes? She stared at him for another minute, got in the car and drove off. Cap was stunned.
Although his grandma had left him behind, Cap still was determined to take good care of Garland farm, where he used to live. When he walked up to the rusty old gate, he saw the terrible sign. It read, " Due to the decisions of the mayor of the town, Garland farm has been CLOSED for all time." Cap read the message over and over again. He looked up the dirt road at the wooden cottages, and the old trees bearing no fruit. Then slowly, he turned around and walked away not ever looking back.
While Cap Anderson was sad about his old home, he was also excited about moving back in with his old family, the Donnelly's. He was also excited about going back to his old school he went to while living with them. When he rang the doorbell and asked to come in, the family was very eager to have him back. As he climbed the white creaky stairs, all the memories started to flow back to him. He remembered the scratch on the wall, and the mark on the floor. But something was wrong.
Even though Cap felt well inside the house, he still had an urge to be back at Garland. He sprinted out the glass front door, across the lawn, and down the street. He didn’t stop sprinting until he reached the sign again. Without thinking, he climbed over it and again sprinted until he was inside his wooden cottage. Breathing as hard as a raging bull, he climbed into the old mattress he used for as a bed, and drifted off to sleep. He had no clue what would be happening the next morning.
