Essay on Two Minute Drill

In the book Two Minute Drill by Mike Lupica, the mode of literature is definitely a romance. All of the characteristics and the plot line fit into this mode of literature, and after reading it, you realize that this is the only possible mode it could fit into. This book is a romance, because every possible characteristic fits into it perfectly.

In the beginning of the book, it is just normal life for the main character Scott Perry. Then everything change. When he moves to a new school, he is bullied and picked on. This is the minor problem that Scott will have to face. This is also part 2 of the romance plot line. Scott gets bullied so much, that he doesn't want to go to school. The way he tries to solve the problem is by trying out for football. If he can survive tryouts and make the team, maybe he won't be bullied anymore. It will be a long and hard tryout, but if he survives until the end of the camp, then he will be accepted at school.

Although Scott has a solution, he has no idea how he is going to accomplish it. This is the part in the plot line where the reader sees if the problem will be solved, or if the story will turn into a tragedy. In the first day of tryouts, Scott makes it through easily, because they didn't do any contact. In the days to come though, they will do a lot of hitting. The next couple of days Scott gets beat up, but sticks it out, and makes the team. Even though he did make the team he still gets bullied. At this point in the story I was thinking it would turn into a tragedy or possibly even an irony story.

Even though he made the team, that's not the turning point in the story. When the story really turns, is when the team starts playing games. They win all of their games without Scott playing, and make it to the state championship. At the end of the game, Scott is their only hope. It is rainy, and muddy, and he has to make a drop kick field goal. Scott nails the drop kick and they win. Scott is now accepted at school. This is when the story turns into a romance mode of literature.

The plot line fits perfectly with the romance mode of literature. So do the characteristics. Many of the places where scenes in the book take place, relates to this mode. For example, when Scott is in his field in his backyard, that the field is sunny. This relates to a romance. Also, the animals, and types of plants named in this story very much sound like a romance. This story is a romanc3e because of all the characteristics, and because of the plot line.
